Questo angelo dal fascino ambiguo, androgino, è la statua, di Staglieno, più famosa nel mondo. È un opera dello scultore Giulio Monteverde (Bistagno, Alessandria, 1837 – Roma 1917), allievo del Varni, del 1882. Un angelo inquietante veglia sulle spoglie del defunto in modo quasi assente, meditabondo e misterioso con uno sguardo magnetico verso il nulla, o l’infinito. Un simbolo che farà di Monteverde uno dei precursori del Simbolismo soprattutto quello della corrente della “cultura del mistero” dei preraffaelliti inglesi ben riconoscibili nei tratti espressivi ma sapientemente allusivi. E infatti dell’angelo rimane anche difficile stabilirne con certezza il sesso, forse una preoccupazione per molti, ma l’opera è talmente bella e affascinante che é tanto più misteriosa anche per questo dubbio. Venne comissionata da Francesco Oneto un ricco commerciante della borghesia genovese nonchè banchiere della classe borghese.
La statua vanta innumerevoli copie alcune delle quali eseguite dallo stesso Monteverde ed è stata copiata in molti cimiteri di fede cattolica.

This angel with ambiguous charm is the most famous statue, of Staglieno, in the world. It is a work of the sculptor Giulio Monteverde (Bistagno, Alexandria, 1837 – Rome 1917) , a pupil of Varni, 1882. An angel watches over the remains of the deceased in an almost absent, mysterious with a magnetic look at nothing, or infinity. A symbol that will make Monteverde a precursor of Symbolism especially the one of the current “culture of the mystery ” of the English Pre-Raphaelites in expressive features easily recognizable but cleverly allusive. In fact, the angel is also difficult to determine with certainty the sex, for many concerns, but the work is so beautiful and charming and all the more mysterious for this question. This work was commissioned by Francesco Oneto a wealthy merchant of the bourgeoisie as well as banker.
The statue has many copies of which some were executed by Monteverde and has been copied in many cemeteries of the Catholic faith.

La Statua della Fede - The Statue of Faith
La Statua della fede (o della Religione) è una scultura di Santo Varni (1807-85). E’ al centro del cimitero di Staglieno, dietro l’ingresso principale. Sorge dove un tempo c’era solo un grande prato ed è alta 9 metri. Con una mano sorregge una grande croce e nell’altra un libro sacro.

The Statue of the Faith (or Religion ) is a sculpture of Santo Varni (1807-85) and is 9 meters high. It is in the center of the Staglieno cemetery, behind the main entrance. It was Built where there was once a large lawn and is 9 meters high. With one hand holding a large cross and a holy book in the other one.
Il Campo dei Mille - Camp of the 1000
Il Campo dei 1000 è riservato ai resti di numerosi garibaldini che parteciparono alla spedizione, molti dei quali erano liguri. La partenza avvenne nel 1860 dallo scoglio di Quarto di Genova per sbarcare a Marsala in Sicila ed è uno degli episodi più importanti del Risorgimento. Anche colui che li guidò nell’impresa Giuseppe Garibaldi era ligure in quanto Nizza era italiana ma oggi appartiene alla Francia.

Camp of the 1000 is reserved for the remains of the many who participated in the expedition, many of whom were from Liguria. The departure took place in 1860 from the rock of Quarto in Genoa to arrive at Marsala in Sicily and is one of the most important events of the Risorgimento. Even the man who led them in the enterprise was from Liguria as Giuseppe Garibaldi was born in Nice that was Italian but now belongs to France .
