Ma quale fatto o avvenimento succederà mai di così interessante in quel di

Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena, uno dei borghi più belli d’Italia e dell’entroterra ligure….?

All in turmoil and waiting …
But what a fact or event will never happen so interesting that in Castelvecchio of Rocca Barbena,

one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and the Ligurian hinterland ….?

… molte persone salgono la stradina che proviene da Zuccarello, il paese di Ilaria del Carretto

e che porta all’antico castello medievale, accorrendo dai paesi vicini per l’evento che si annuncia particolarmente interessante per il borgo…

… many people walk along the road that comes from Zuccarello, the country of Ilaria del Carretto

and that leads to the ancient medieval castle, rushing from neighboring villages

for the event which promises to be particularly interesting for the village …

Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena ha una formazione costruttiva distribuita attorno al castello che fu eretto nell’XI secolo, passando nel tempo sotto Zuccarello, i Del Carretto, i Savoia e la Repubblica di Genova. Le antiche case di aspetto mediterraneo, furono costruite forse dai primi abitanti saliti fin qui dalla costa per sfuggire alle incursioni saracene e molte sono oggi restaurate pur mantenenedo intatta l’architettura di un tempo, con le finestre ridipinte con le tipiche cornici bianche di lontana eco alpino-provenzale. Molti degli impianti interni sono stati eseguiti ex-novo, le coperture a terrazza sono state restaurate ed il paese offre una vista unica.
Il suo nome deriverebbe dal termine antico Vallis Cohedani, toponimo di una “Via del Sale”, (le vie di commercio per olio e vino, tra il Piemonte e la Liguria di ponente) e punto importante di sosta del percorso che partiva dal mare di Albenga, costeggiava Consciente famoso per le sue olive ed il suo frantoio con la macina, caso raro, azionata dall’acqua. Attraversava la Val Neva,una delle zona più belle e naturali della Liguria, e da Zuccarello l’antico borgo fortificato saliva su fino al Colle di Scravaion… sull’Alta Via dei Monti Liguri… la porta di accesso che conduceva a Bardineto e Calizzano e da qui nelle terre piemontesi… e che passa, ancora oggi, nei pressi dell’austera Rocca Barbena e dei suoi boschi…
…”Quella sera stava tornando dopo diversi giorni trascorsi sulle montagne a fotografare la natura incontaminata della Val Neva, la stessa che secondo un progetto di cui si parlava da anni, rischiava di essere messa in pericolo dalla costruzione di una nuova autostrada. All’inizio si era trattato solo di una voce, una fola che quando però aveva preso consistenza e credibilità aveva scosso in modo violento la coscienza della gente. L’idea di costruire un’autostrada aveva fatto insorgere gli abitanti della Val Neva; per qualche settimana non si era parlato d’altro, da Cisano sul Neva a Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena, fino a Bardineto, tutti si erano preparati alla mobilitazione generale e alla lotta. Poi…era tornata la pace…” ... (la frase tra virgolette è di un altro autore amante di Crb…)…

Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena has a constructive distribution around the castle, which was built in the eleventh century, passing the time in Zuccarello, of the Del Carretto family, then under the Savoy Reign and the Republic of Genoa. The old houses of Mediterranean appearance, were built by the first inhabitants probably escaping from the coast after the Saracen attacks and many are now restored mantaining, in many cases, the original architecture of the past, with the windows now painted over with the typical white frames of distant Alpine-Provence influence. Many of the interiors works were carried out from scratch, the roof terrace has been restored and the country offers nowadays a unique view.

Its name derives from the ancient word Cohedani Vallis, a name of a “Via del Sale” (the “Salt Ways” ancient trade routes for oil and wine commerce, between Piedmont and western Liguria) and important stopping point of the itinerary from the seacoast of Albenga, passing nearby Consciente famous for its olives and its oil mill driven by water. The route crossed the Neva Valley, one of the most beautiful and well preserved in Liguria, and near Zuccarello, the ancient fortified village, took the way up to the Colle di Scravaion … along the Ligurian Mountains High Way trek the access door that led to Bardineto and Calizzano and here in the lands of Piedmont … and passing, even today, near the austere fortress of Rocca Barbena and its woods …

At the beginning it had been only a rumor, a myth, however, that when he had taken consistency and credibility it was shaken in a violent people’s consciousness. sono visibili insieme il Forte Begato, lo Sperone, il Forte Puin, il Diamante, Il Forte Ratti e la torre di Quezzi.

here are visible altogether the Begato, Sperone, Puin, Diamond Ratti Fortresses and the Quezzi tower.

L’antichissima  cattedrale di San Lorenzo che risale al 1100,  il grattacielo della Torre Piacentini di piazza Dante
(è stato il primo grattacielo italiano, del 1935, ed è ancora oggi il più alto abitato d’Italia)
con l’ascensore panoramico del Bigo, l’antica gru portuale.
