La scritta, in inglese, così recita: “Su queste coste, intorno al 1477, il marinaio genovese Cristoforo Colombo trovò indizi certi di terra oltre l’Atlantico”.
Il monumento è stato recentemente vandalizzato, con scritte varie, per protesta sul comportamento di Colombo che fu crudele, secondo alcuni storici, verso i popoli Nativi delle terre “scoperte”.
Secondo alcune associazioni che si ispirano alla “cancel culture” ne andrebbe eseguita la rimozione…

CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS IN GALWAY IRELAND. The monument dedicated to Christopher Columbus, the great Genoese navigator, was erected in Galway in Ireland near the mouth of the Corrib River. It was donated by the city of Genoa on June 29, 1992 on the 500th anniversary of the date of reaching today’s lands in the Bahamas.
The inscription, in English, reads as follows: “On these shores around 1477 the Genoese sailor Christoforo Colombo found sure signs of land beyond the Atlantic”.
The monument has recently been vandalized, with various writings, in protest of Columbus’s behaviour which was cruel, according to some historians, towards the Native peoples of the “discovered” lands.
According to some associations inspired by the “cancel culture” it should be removed…
