DARIO MODENA, pittore genovese dei Nativi Americani – A Genoise Native Americans painter

Molti pittori hanno consegnato alla storia gli usi e costumi dei Popoli Nativi Americani. Uno su tutti, George Catlin che abbandonò una brillante carriera di avvocato per passare la sua vita a dipingerli.

Noi li conosciamo più comunemente come “Indiani”. Questo termine dovrebbe essere dimenticato o diventare desueto perché a loro non piace proprio. Scrivo dalla terra del grande navigatore Cristoforo Colombo che per primo, nel 1492, raggiunse le loro terre. Egli passò alla storia proprio per questa scoperta ma in effetti neanche lui sapeva quello che stava facendo. Infatti non era proprio sua intenzione arrivare nelle loro terre, e se avesse potuto prevedere quanto sarebbe successo in seguito alla sua scoperta, forse avrebbe evitato…

Non sono molti i pittori che hanno scelto di raffigurare i Nativi Americani anche perchè nella nostra bella terra di Liguria tutti sono giustamente attratti dai riflessi cangianti del mare, dai colori dei molti paesi e usi delle popolazioni della costa o dalle sfumature dei boschi dei paesi dell’entroterra. C’è però un pittore genovese, Dario Modena che ha scelto invece di dipingere le praterie nordamaericane, i paesaggi dei Nativi, ed i loro usi e costumi. Conosciuto ed apprezzato in molte esposizioni e mostre mi sono piaciuti particolarmente alcuni suoi quadri ed ecco una scelta con alcune foto. A più di qualcuno porteranno delle emozioni di certi anni…

Nel Genovesato si celebra d’estate una bella festa, dedicata ai nativi americani, nei pressi del monte più famoso di Genova nel parco omonimo dell’Antola vicino a Casa del Romano. I dettagli della prossima si possono trovare sull’interessante sito di Hunkapi

Many painters have given to the history the habits and customs of Native American Peoples. One of all, George Catlin, abandoned a successful career as a lawyer to spend his life to paint them.
We know them more commonly as “Indians”. This term should be forgotten or become obsolete because they do not like it at all. I write from the land of the great navigator Christopher Columbus who first, in 1492, reached their land. He became famous for this discovery, but he did not even knew what he was doing. In fact it was not his intention to arrive in their lands, and if he could predict what would have happened after his discovery, he would have perhaps avoided…

There are not many artists who have chosen to depict the Native Americans because even in our beautiful region of Liguria  they are mainly are attracted by the changing reflections of the sea, by the colors of the many villages of the coast or by the nuances of the woods. There is, however, a Genoese painter Dario Modena, who has chosen to paint the North America Native landscapes and customs. He is known and appreciated in many exhibitions and shows and I liked some of his paintings so here is a a particularly choice with some photos. To more then one they will bring back emotional feelings of gone by years…
