Dai cassetti dei mobili e da quelli del tempo è riapparso un filmato preparato nel lontano 1994 a seguito di alcuni viaggi, effettuati con l’amico fotografo Rudy, al lago di Vagli che fu svuotato e che permise di vedere e fotografare le case, la chiesa e quel che rimaneva del riapparso paese sommerso di Fabbriche di Vagli. (da tenere presente le possibilità tecniche di allora per assemblare uno slideshow… poco pìù di un Commodore 64 o un Pc Ibm…).
From the drawers of the furniture and from those of the time, a slideshow made back in 1994 reappeared following some trips made – with my photographer friend Rudy, to Lake Vagli which was emptied and which allowed us to see and photograph the houses, the church and what remained of the reappeared submerged village of Fabbriche di Vagli. (keep in mind the technical possibilities of the time to assemble a slideshow… little more than a Commodore 64 or an Ibm Pc…)

Uno dei luoghi abbandonati più affascinanti che ho visitato è stata la discoteca Domina sopra Toirano nell’entroterra della Liguria di Ponente. Il nome faceva onore al luogo poichè dominava tutta la Val Varatella fino al mare. Sorta sulle “ceneri” di un ristorante abbandonato era costruita su 4 piani con 2 piste da ballo all’interno ed una esterna.
Era dotata di piscina, statue, viali alberati ed era frequentata da persone che venivano da tutta la Liguria e da fuori regione. Fu chiusa nel 2007 per i molti fenomeni di spaccio di droga e risse…
Forse in futuro tutta la storia affascinante… ma a volte anche inquietante… della discoteca Domina ovvero di quello che fu il tempio della musica elettronica… house… dj..techno… ma non solo… immersa in uno scenario – paesaggio mozzafiato…
“Da qui messere si domina la valle” cantavano i progressive Mutuo Soccorso…

… cantando e suonando una famosa canzone con foto e filmato da una delle più famose città fantasma nel mondo… Balestrino…
… Rita ed Enrico ritornano nel luogo che li ha visti camminare, esplorare, fare delle foto, (alcune delle quali nel filmato risalenti agli anni ’80) tanti anni fa insieme per le strade del borgo abbandonato …
Questa canzone (scritta nel 2012) … narra…. di Shel che a Balestrino ha trovato le sue “stelle”, e che molti anni fa cantava con i Rokes, su questa musica di Bob Lind (titolo originale “Cheryl’s going home”, 1966), la famosa canzone “Ma che colpa abbiamo noi” scritta da Mogol (Giulio Rapetti) e che diventerà, per un certo periodo, il “manifesto” hippie (in Italia) degli anni ’66-’67 (titolo al quale si ispirerà anche un film di Carlo Verdone).
Uno degli spettacoli di Shel si ispira alla Beat Generation americana ed è arricchito qua e la da esibizioni musicali. Shel Shapiro è Direttore Artistico della Rassegna “Stars A Balestrino”, affascinante Borgo della Riviera Ligure di ponente che gli autori (Rita ed Enrico) avevano già frequentato e percorso nelle sue antiche vie molti decenni prima. Essi colpiti dalla coincidenza che Shel organizzasse questi spettacoli proprio a Balestrino, scrissero spontaneamente questo testo… ricordando quando erano fan dei Rokes a metà degli anni ’60…
Un omaggio simpatico, ed affettuosamente spiritoso, ai Rokes ed in particolare a Shel ed a quello che hanno rappresentato per le generazioni dell’epoca; e dedicata a Balestrino ed ai suoi abitanti.

This song (written in 2012) is about Shel finding his “stars” in Balestrino and who sang with Rokes many years ago on the music of “Cheryl’s going home” (1966) by Bob Lind, the famous song “Ma che colpa abbiamo noi” written by Mogol (Giulio Rapetti) and was, for a time, the hippie “manifesto” (in Italy) in ’66 -’67.
In one of the shows Shel is inspired by the American Beat Generation and he enriched the show with some musical performances. Shell Shapiro is the Artistic Director of the “Stars in Balestrino,” Festival a charming village on the Western Riviera which authors (Rita and Enrico) had already visited and walked along its ancient streets decades ago. They where strucked by the coincidence that Shel would organize these shows just at Balestrino, and they spontaneously wrote this text … remembering when they were fans of the Rokes in the mid 60’s …
A nice and affectionately witty tribute, to the Rokes and to Shel in particular and to what represented for the generations of those times; and dedicated to Balestrino and its inhabitants.
