The history of the mills is inspired by the Mill of Neirone, the first object of research in 2005, but then I also talk about that of Roccatagliata, of Corsiglia, of Costamaglio, etc. to talk about the history of water, wind or wind mills … The publication – complete with photographs and documents of the time – concerns the history of one of the last remaining mills in Val Fontanabuona in Genoa, in Liguria and still with big wheel. It is located in a beautiful place in the middle of the Ligurian mountains with interesting excursions and walks and trekkings such as the Itinerary of the Feudi Fliscani, the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri, the 7 Passi, etc.
A trip to the Ligurian hinterland to visit a friend who has decided to go and live outside the big city and precisely in Neirone. This is the story of an abandoned farmhouse that he bought and partially restored, bringing him back to live in the middle of a valley once rich in mills and history. Now the stillness and silence – now unusual for us stressed inhabitants of the cities – cover the chestnut woods.
The water no longer turns the wheel of the mill but it has made me click the gear to turn that of time.
This book therefore takes inspiration from the Mill of Neirone to tell other stories of mills in the Ligurian Apennines such as the ones of Roccatagliata, of Corsiglia, of Costamaglio, etc. to talk about the history of water, wind or windmills …. Complete with many beautiful photographs and, for some, with original documents, it also contains descriptions of the itineraries that cross the lands that once belonged to the powerful Genoese Fieschi family or other interesting mills described as the IFF (Itinerary of the Feudi Fliscani), the AVML (Alta Via dei Monti Liguri), the 7P the Itinerary of the 7 Passes, the ISC Historical Colombian Itinerary, the Via dell’Ardesia or the Pane, the 2G of the 2 Gulfs, Barbagelata … the Caucasus … the Valley of the Mills in Portofino and Paraggi … on the Historical Aqueduct of Genoa … in Tèra Brigašca …
From the drawers of the furniture and from those of the time, a slideshow made back in 1994 reappeared following some trips made – with my photographer friend Rudy, to Lake Vagli which was emptied and which allowed us to see and photograph the houses, the church and what remained of the reappeared submerged village of Fabbriche di Vagli.
(keep in mind the technical possibilities of the time to assemble a slideshow… little more than a Commodore 64 or an Ibm Pc…)
